“Calvary Chapel Wien” What is that?
“Calvary Chapel Wien” is a free-evangelical fellowship. We are associated with the “Calvary Chapel” movement. The name’s origin lays with Mount Calvary, the hill on which Jesus was crucified. The Church is based on the teachings of the Bible and the example of church service in the early church. (Acts 2:42).
What do you believe?
We believe that Jesus died for the world, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
What do you do?
What we do is nothing new. We want to follow the simple teachings of the Bible. In Acts 2:42 we read that the first disciples viewed and practized as most important the teachings of the apostles, fellowhip, the breaking of bread, and prayer. This is why we meet to get to know the Bible better, have fellowship with each other, and to pray.
Our main goal is to get to know God better, to strengthen our personal relationship with him, and to please him in all that we do. As Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (Matthew 22:37)”
We are, by no means, the only church, that believes in the Bible and salvation by it, in Vienna. Our church is simply meant to be an oasis where everybody can experience Jesus’ love, the simple teaching of the Bible, and worship from the heart, and grow in the love of Jesus.
How do you finance your work?
We are independent from any government support as well as any kind of church tax. All of our expenses are covered through voluntary donations.
How long have you been in Vienna?
The church begann as a Bible study in 1998. After 2000 it was located in the 3rd district, and since 2010 we are at Burggasse 104, 1070 Wien.
The Calvary Chapel Conference Center at Schloss Heroldeck near Millstätter See, Kärnten has been in existence since 1989. Since 1992 there also is the nearby Calvary Chapel Spittal/Drau.
Who can come to the meetings?
Everybody is very welcome. We read the Bible, sing worship songs, and host different events. Everybody is invited to come to any of these. There is no official membership and thus want to stress the freedom and voluntariness to come to our church services and other events, and to participate in them. We would be happy to welcome you as well.
